This anti-inflammatory smoothie is packed with all things good. It helps heal the body, starting from the inside, which eventually works its way out. If you feel your body needs a little healing TLC, make this smoothie as your next meal!
One of the most powerful anti-inflammatory foods (besides turmeric), is ginger. Ginger has been found by some studies to be even more effective than drugs for pain. Ginger blocks the formation of inflammatory compounds like leukotrienes and prostaglandins. It also helps break down any pre-existing inflammation and acidity in the fluid that surrounds our joints.
Berries like blueberries and blackberries have a lot of antioxidants as well, and antioxidants are one of the best ways to battle inflammation in the body (especially when they come as concentrated as they are in these two powerful berries!).
Adding in easily digestible protein like hemp protein (which isn’t acid forming) is another great way to bring your smoothie to the next level, without adding in low-quality whey protein (which I’d advise against eating).
I also like to include medicinal mushrooms in my smoothie mixes – don’t worry, you can’t taste the mushroom! Mushrooms have been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for thousands of years to help promote well-being, fight inflammation, support a healthy immune system and reduce stress.
Anti-Inflammatory Smoothie Recipe
– 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
– 1 cup fresh or frozen blackberries
– 2 cups packed leafy greens (like spinach, kale, or romaine)
– 2 inches fresh ginger root
– 1 tbsp. hemp protein powder
– 2 tsp. medicinal mushroom complex powder
– 1/2 cup filtered water
Stick all of the above ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Enjoy!
