Digestiveremedies

If you’re suffering from a chronically bloated stomach, there are ways to help prevent it. These 10 powerful remedies reduce bloating in just a few minutes, thanks to their incredible digestive-healing properties.

Bloating, constipation and gas are a result of poor eating habits, stress, poor food combining and not enough good gut bacteria. Although it is harmless, it doesn’t make you feel good, and is your body’s way of telling you to pay more attention to the foods you eat, and the way you eat.

These 10 Powerful Remedies Reduce Bloating in Minutes

Thankfully, there are a number of powerful digestive remedies that can help provide relief within minutes. These include (and are not limited to):

Fennel

Fennel and fennel seeds are a great way to reduce bloating and gas. It acts as an antispasmodic agent in the colon, and relaxes the smooth muscles of the digestive tract, helping to stimulate bile flow while reducing any pain associated with digestion.

Caraway Seeds

Caraway seeds have been used for centuries to help treat loss of appetite and digestive disorders like dyspepsia, flatulence and colic. They contain carminative properties, which means that they help prevent the formation of gas and aid in the expulsion of gas. They also promote the growth of good bacteria in the gut, which is essential for a flat tummy.

Ginger

This is one of my favourites. Ginger has the ability to relieve symptoms of gastrointestinal distress thanks to a protein digesting enzyme called zingibain. It is effective at eliminating intestinal gas and reducing bloating, especially as a result of eating protein-heavy foods. I love juicing around 2-3 inches of ginger in my green juices for extra digestive benefits!

Pineapple

Pineapple is loaded with the protein-digesting enzyme, bromelain, which helps improve digestion and reduces the chance of developing gas and bloating. Plus, it is an incredibly effective anti-inflammatory and helps reduce the “puffy” inflamed look most stomachs are plagued by.

Peppermint Tea

I love drinking peppermint tea, especially at night after a long day of digesting. It has relaxing effects on the smooth muscles of the GI tract, and has been extensively studied for its usefulness against irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

Chamomile Tea

Chamomile benefits the digestive system in a number of different ways. It is an anti-spasmodic, anti-inflammatory, and carminative. It soothes the mucous membranes of the digestive tract, and relaxes and reduces stress in the body, which is a major trigger for digestive discomfort in most people. It is also effective in relieving diarrhea in young children.

Papaya

Papaya is a nutritional powerhouse that’ll reduce the amount of digestive complaints like bloating. It contains the enzyme papain, a protein-digesting enzyme that fights bloating and gas, a common disturbance in those who consume high-protein diets. Be sure to eat some of the papaya seeds, too! They’re great for getting rid of intestinal worms, and other parasites that make our stomachs look more bloated than normal.

Parsley

Raw parsley is a wonderful herb that not only freshens your breath, but aids digestion, too! It is a natural diuretic, so it helps reduce excess salt build-up in the body, and thus works great for reducing excess water weight, bloating and gas. Juice a bunch of parsley with some cucumber and celery, or eat it in your next salad!

Apple Cider Vinegar and Lemon

If your tummy is giving you problems, reach for some apple cider vinegar (dilute 50:50) or lemon! This will stimulate your digestive juices and enhance your body’s ability to better digest nutrients. Drink 1-2 tsp. of apple cider vinegar in a cup of water, or juice 1/2-1 lemon in a quart of water.
