Berry Pineapple Smoothie

When I was in Costa Rica this past winter I came across one of the tastiest smoothies I’ve ever had the chance of enjoying. It was a berry pineapple smoothie with hints of ginger and turmeric. A combination I’ve never tried, but one which I have become obsessed with every since.

It never really struck me until now how great this smoothie is for achy joints and skin issues triggered by inflammation. Turmeric is a major inflammation-healer, thanks to the compounds called curcumin, that help reduce joint pain in patients with osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. It also makes the skin look beautiful, too!

Pineapple contains a powerful digestive enzyme called bromelain, that reduces inflammation, clears the skin, and helps relax the muscles.

If you want to add a few ice cubes to this smoothie to help cool you down after a workout or hot summers day, then go right ahead!

Berry Pineapple Smoothie Recipe

Ingredients:

– 2 cups ripe pineapple
– 2 cups berries of choice (I like a mix of raspberries, blackberries and blueberries)
– 1 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
– 1 cup coconut water or filtered water
– 1 cup spinach
– 1 inch ginger root
– 1 inch turmeric root
– Optional: the fruit of 2 passion fruit or grenadilla

Method:

Blend all ingredients in a blender on high until smooth and creamy.
