Green is a beautiful colour – it represents nature at its best. It’s no wonder then that many of the healthiest foods for you tend to be green in colour. If you want to give your body a rest, boost its ability to heal and repair, and enjoy tasty treats in the meantime, you should add plenty of green to your diet. What are the best super green foods to add to your diet? Eating these 10 foods every day is bound to provide a boost to your immune system and help you feel more energetic.

1. Kale

Kale has long been touted as the must-eat superfood. It has become a staple part of cleansing diets and many detox recipes feature this great food. Why? Kale has so much going for it that it’s almost hard to know where to start. If you eat just 100g of kale each day you will provide your body:

  • 10% of its daily potassium needs
  • 35% of the folate needs
  • Twice the required amount of Vitamin C
  • Over eight times to amount of Vitamin K

2. Spinach

Another beneficial green food to add to your diet is spinach. The humble spinach managed to make Popeye strong and it’ll help you feel more powerful and energetic as well. Studies have linked spinach to reversing age-related cognitive and physical declines, such as spatial problem solving and problems in balance.

3. Avocado

Healthy fats have become the talk of the town recently after studies have started to show we shouldn’t be as afraid of it as we are. When it comes to eating healthy fats, avocados are the best possible pick. The fat content doesn’t just provide benefits on its own, but also help your body to absorb more other good things such as lycopene and beta-carotene.

One study has even linked avocados with anti-inflammation – regular consumption of avocados helped patients to reduce the amount of anti-inflammatory drug they needed to eat.

4. Brussels sprouts

When it comes to getting a lot of healthy minerals and nutrients, Brussels sprouts are another fantastic green food to eat. Adding this often forgotten vegetable on your plate will help you enjoy more potassium, folate, Vitamin C and Vitamin K as part of your diet.

5. Broccoli

For most people, lack of dietary fibre is a big problem in diet and broccoli can help you change it. In addition to fibre, broccoli has high levels of minerals like manganese, phosphorus, choline and potassium.

6. Green olives

If you want to enjoy a treat without feeling guilty, green olives are a great option. These tiny things have tons of antioxidants that can help lower your cholesterol levels and alleviate allergy symptoms. Studies have even linked it to preventing breast cancer.

7. Green beans

Green beans are another fibre-rich vegetable to add to your diet. If you are looking to cut down your meat consumption, the beans also provide quite a good amount of protein. Studies have linked green beans to a reduction in the risk of heart disease and it can help diabetics control their blood sugar levels.

The fantastic ingredient will also make it easier to add the right nutrients to your body. By eating green beans, you can enjoy the benefits of vitamins A, C, K, B6 and folic acid.

8. Green bell pepper

Although bell peppers are a good addition to a diet in general, the green version is an especially healthy one to add to your salads, soups, and sauces. The green bell pepper has a lot of lutein, which has been associated with preventing deterioration in eyesight and even heart disease.

9. Kiwi fruit

Would you like something a bit sweet as well? Get yourself a few kiwi fruits. The fruit has plenty of Vitamin C – in fact, it has almost double the Vitamin C to oranges. Vitamin C is extremely important to your health. Numerous studies have linked it to reducing respiratory symptoms, such as wheezing or shortness of breath.

10. Green tea

Finally, if you are getting tired of eating all of this super food, you could have a lovely green drink to wash it all down. Green tea is a fantastic addition to your daily diet – it does a world of good for your body and mind. The best part of green tea is the rich consistency of non-oxidized polyphenols. These have been extensively studied due to their ability to help prevent cancer, kill tumorous cells and reduce cholesterol levels.

So, add the ten foods to your plate and enjoy a healthier body and happier mind!
