Detox green smoothie with spinach, pineapple, and banana

If you haven’t already, give green smoothies a chance! The health benefits of green smoothies range from blood sugar regulation to detox and weight loss and so much more. From their amazing benefits to their ease of preparation, green smoothies are the superstars of the health food world. They are nutritious and tasty, and can be added to your morning ritual in place of headache-causing coffee (green smoothies give you incredible, lasting energy!).

Individuals who include green smoothies in their diet have experienced improvements in their health, energy levels and mental clarity. Not only that, but many people have experienced significant weight loss by adding these magical elixirs in their daily routine.

Here are 10 amazing health benefits of green smoothies!

Detoxing & Alkalizing

Smoothies are a great way to detox your organs and help alkalize the body. Since green smoothies are packed which chlorophyll, they can initiate detox by helping to alkalize our system and rid toxins we acquire from the food we eat and the environment. At first, you may feel “off” from drinking green smoothies, however, this is simply a minor side effect of the detox process. In fact, once this passes, you will indefinitely feel better and more vibrant than you have in years. Again, this is all a natural method of your body trying to get rid of toxins, and adding green smoothies to your diet is one of the easiest (and mildest) ways of flushing out toxins.

Anti-inflammatory

Green smoothies are very anti-inflammatory because the greens help re-mineralize and alkalize the body to rid it of the toxic effects of an acidic diet. Consuming lots of processed foods high in saturated fats lead to a variety of inflammation-related diseases (like cancer and Arthritis), and dark leafy greens can reverse this effect. Some great greens to add to your smoothie can be found HERE.

Better Digestion

Green smoothies are packed with fiber which help flush out the colon and keep things moving. They are also loaded with enzymes for easy digestibility and better nutrient assimilation. Blending also helps unlock nutrients and maximizes their delivery to the body (even more than chewing – unless if you were to chew a salad for 2 hours). Blending up a green smoothie is fast, especially when you don’t have time to fully chew down a large salad.

Increased Consumption of Greens

A great reason to incorporate green smoothies into your diet is because they increase the amounts of greens and fruit we consume. Vegetables and fruit help prevent cancer and other diseases, so green smoothies are incredibly convenient when it comes to getting in your greens (and the awesome thing is, is that you usually cannot taste them when blended with berries and bananas). Fruit helps mask the bitter flavour of greens – add things like banana, mango, berries, pineapples and papays!

Chlorophyll for Blood

A molecule of chlorophyll closely resembles a molecule of human blood. Drinking 2-3 cups of green smoothies a day will ensure you get plenty of alkalizing blood-transfusing chlorophyll to help nourish and repair the cells in your body.

Natural Weight Loss

Many individuals have reported significant weight loss by adding green smoothies to their diet. Green smoothies are very high in vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients which signal to the brain that the body is nourished and does not require any other food. Smoothies are also high in fiber and naturally low in fat which helps people lose weight quickly and safely! Try adding green smoothies to your diet for a few weeks, and watch your cravings dissipate and hunger levels start to balance.

Clearer Skin

Eating healthier, especially when incorporating lots of fruits and vegetables, has been linked to much clearer, radiant skin. Smoothies are high in fiber, allowing the body to eliminate toxins through the liver, kidneys and colon instead of the skin. When your colon is backed up and your liver is not working properly, the body detoxes through the skin. Helping move things through your body will eliminate this problem and allow your skin to glow!

Mental Clarity & Focus

Replacing your normal morning coffee rituals with green smoothies will help you feel greater alertness, energy, and help reduce any nervous energy you may suffer from. Green smoothies allow the nerves to function at a faster, efficient rate because they are high in B vitamins and potassium which nourishes the nerves and the functioning of our brain.

Antioxidants

Antioxidants and phytonutrients are quite abundant in a properly constructed green smoothie. Antioxidants help protect the body from disease and illness and repair and prevent DNA damage that comes from nasty free radicals. Antioxidants and phytonutrients are also essential for energy levels and ensuring you keep your body at optimum health and fitness.

Increased Energy

Smoothies are packed with vitamins and minerals, and are digested easily. Easy digestion welcomes plenty of energy (compared to things that digest slower and make you tired). Smoothies and clean eating also clear out the colon, so the nutrients in the foods you are eating are absorbed faster and provide the cells in your body with the energy and vitality they crave and require.

Today I’m drinking a green smoothie (Handful of spinach, 1 banana, & about 20 oz of water). I’m thinking to add another banana and 3 dates to it.

I think my favourite is banana, blueberries and kale, with oatly or almond milk or half/half with cows milk rather than water and sweeten with Truvia, totally delicious.
Put the kale and blueberries in the freezer no need for ice cubes

Hi, is it true that vegetables should not be mixed with fruits? If you try to make smoothies is it really best to stick on fruits only or vegetables only and not mix the two? I just read it from one article of a naturopathy.

You can mix fruits with leafy greens, but I probably wouldn’t mix with root veggies or other veggies.
