Iron-Boosting Green Smoothie

Contrary to popular belief, iron is in a variety of plant foods, and any individual who properly eats a plant-based diet (without eating solely vegan junk food), will get as much iron as those who consume animal products.

This iron-boosting green smoothie will provide your body with plenty of iron – the trace element required by the body for blood formation (which then goes on to activate enzymatic reactions, regulate cell growth, and act as a mediator for collagen synthesis).

The ingredients in this smoothie work together to help ensure that ingredients containing higher iron concentrations are readily absorbed by the body. Pairing high-iron foods with foods that are high in vitamin C ensures this process can occur.

Iron-Boosting Green Smoothie

Ingredients:

– 4 ripe kiwi fruit, peeled
– 2 cups dark leafy greens (spinach, kale, romaine, or a mix of all)
– 1/2 cucumber
– 2 ripe spotty bananas
– 1/4 cup soaked goji berries
– 1 tbsp. hemp seeds
– 1 tbsp. chia seeds
– 1 cup filtered water or young coconut water

Method:

Stick all of the ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Enjoy!

Love this! I also have a lot of sensitivities to food and other things… so I think it would be great for people like me or people with allergies etc. if there were maybe suggestions of other foods you could use in place if you can’t use the exact fruit in a recipe to get the same results? Sites like fatsickandnearlydead does this and I find it very helpful!

Hey Amber – that’s a great idea! I’ll keep that in mind for future recipes! 🙂

A brightly lit store shelf filled with colorful baby care bottles in pastel and vibrant shades of yellow, teal, blue, pink, and white. All bottles are unbranded with smooth, generic shapes and blank labels. The liquids inside are glossy and translucent, giving a polished retail look.
