Fig smoothie served in glass with mint leaves

Who can resist a plump, juicy, jam-filled fig? This high energy fig smoothie is everything you ever wished for in a smoothie! It provides digestive support, energy needed to carry out the day, and is highly anti-inflammatory. Fresh figs are an excellent base for smoothies, especially when mixed with other fruit like bananas and peaches.

Figs are one of the most nutritionally complete and tasty fruits out there! Their health benefits range from immune support, insulin control, heart, skin and eye health, bone support, digestive health, weight loss, cancer prevention and blood pressure control. How’s that for a super-fruit!?

The great thing about this smoothie is that you can make it in summer or winter. In summer, you can find fresh figs in markets (especially italian fresh markets), and in winter you can use organic dried figs (sulphite-free of course), and soak them for an hour or two before use (I usually just soak them the night before).

Give it a try and let me know what you think in the comments below!

High Energy Fig Smoothie Recipe

Ingredients:

– 2 cups fresh figs (or soak 1.5 cups dried figs, and throw out the soak water)
– 2 ripe bananas
– 2 dates, pitted
– 1 inch ginger root
– 2 celery stalks
– 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
– 1 tbsp. lucuma powder
– 1 cup young thai coconut water, or regular water (you can use some of the soak water here if you used dried figs)

Method:

Stick all of the above ingredients in a blender, and blend well until smooth! Top with some sliced figs if you please. Enjoy!
