Hiker woman applying sunscreen with harmful ingredients

With the amount of harmful ingredients in skin care products you would think people would stop buying them. The fact is, however, that many people still spend hundreds of dollars on beauty products without realizing the harmful ingredients they are putting on their skin. Skin care product manufacturers have about 7000 different ingredients that they are allowed to use in skin care products, with around 1000 known to be harmful and another 900 known to cause cancer.

In just one bottle containing skin care product, you will be surprised to find over 20 ingredients – have you ever thought, though, that every time you put this product on your hands, body, or face, that you are putting over 20 potential allergens on your skin? Read on to find out ingredients that you should stay clear of, and certain skin care product brands that are safe for your skin.

Anti-aging skin care products are one of the most popular creams on the market. People have spent hundreds of dollars on these products without even thinking twice about what they are putting on their skin. Not only do these products fail to work, but they contain ingredients that are absorbed into your skin and enter your bloodstream.

If you can’t eat it, don’t put it on your skin! When these chemicals go into your bloodstream, they are now considered “free radicals” that your body tries desperately to keep at a bare minimum. But with a constant influx of these products in your skin, it is hard for the body to keep up, and liver problems, skin reactions, and even cancer may ensue.

If you opt to use natural creams and lotions, please read the ingredients. A lot of the “natural” products that so many companies are now marketing are still laden with harmful chemicals. A great company called Dr. Bronner’s, has an excellent line of skin care products and soaps that are wonderful for the skin. In fact, you do not even need creams to make your skin look amazing – just use jojoba oil! This oil is easily absorbed by the skin and does not leave behind an oily residue. It is extremely moisturizing and 100% natural. In fact, jojoba oil is a 98% pure array of liquid wax ester that is incredibly close to the natural oils (sebum) produced by the human body for our skin. Thus, it basically mimics our skin’s oil production, making it a great product to use all over the body (hand, body and face).

Anti-aging skin creams, or acne creams are not worth it. If you stick to a high-vegetable and high-fruit diet, and remove or minimize foods that are not “whole foods” (basically anything that is processed), then your skin will look incredible!

Here is a list of ingredients that are used in skin care products, and which you should stay clear:

– Alpha Hydroxyl Acid
– Collagen
– Diethanolamine (DEA)
– Monoethanolamine (MEA)
– Triethanolamine (TEA)
– DMDM Hydantion & Urea (Imidazolidinyl)
– FD&C Color Pigments
– Fragrances
– Polyethylene Glycol (PEG)
– Elastin
– Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) & Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES)
– Triclosan
– Petroleum and Mineral Oil
– Propylene Glycol
– Dimethicone
– Glycerin
– Alcohol, Isopropyl (SD-40)
