If you’ve got a skin concern, then I know just the mask to fix it.

Just a few months ago I was sent a facial mask product from Made Simple Skin Care. This isn’t just any face mask, though, it’s a raw vegan spirulina & hemp face mask! It contains a blend of organic, non-GMO superfoods like chamomile powder, hemp seed powder, aloe vera powder, oat powder, spirulina powder and essential oils of palmarosa and geranium!

This face mask is also much different from other face masks you see sold in stores. All of the ingredients are activated at the moment of use when mixing them with your medium of choice (water, face serum or acv, as mentioned below), so it’s an extra bonus for the skin. Other pre-made face masks are often loaded with chemicals to help preserve shelf life. Since the face masks made by Made Simple Skin Care come as a dry powder, it doesn’t need artificial preservatives. Face masks that are made fresh on the spot deliver a higher amount of micro-elements straight to the skin. For example, image a fresh cold-pressed juice versus buying a pre-made juice that has been sitting on the store shelf for months on end – the fresh version will be packed with nutrients and enzymes that you normally wouldn’t get from the pre-made version.

What I loved about this face mask is how little you need to use. The instructions say to mix 1/2 tsp. of the face mask powder with a little bit of water or their face serum until a paste forms. What I did, however, was use a little bit of apple cider vinegar and water, mainly because apple cider vinegar is amazingly awesome for your skin. I used around 1/2 tsp. apple cider vinegar, and 1/2 tsp. water. Don’t use too much apple cider vinegar, and don’t make the paste with pure undiluted apple cider vinegar, or you will experience a red hot burning face for hours (I *may* have experienced this…let’s just say it was an experience in itself). You leave it on for 15 minutes, and then rinse your face.

I’m a raw vegan, so I don’t have many skin issues, but having gone off birth control recently, my skin hasn’t been as optimal as I would like. My hormones are still adjusting and I believe there is some deep detox work that still needs to be done, so finding a product that is free of chemicals, and totally raw vegan (to suit my lifestyle) was important to me. Giving your face a little TLC magic is also super fun – especially when you can do it with products that actually work, and are good for you too.

The results of using this face mask once to twice a week for a month resulted in pretty darn nice skin! When I started adding the apple cider vinegar to the mix, I think that kicked it up a notch, because apple cider vinegar also works as a very gentle and natural “chemical peel” (except you don’t need to pay hundreds for it).

My face overall had less blemishes, and my pores were much tighter. My skin naturally glows, because of a raw vegan diet that I follow, but the mask made it glow even more (if that’s even a thing). I am pretty obsessed now, and will likely be ordering more. It’s a great product that I would recommend to anyone! I urge you – please don’t use face mask products with a bajilliion ingredients. These will leave your skin feeling gross, and won’t do anything other than provide you with the placebo effect, which is “this product says it works, so I will believe it works, and thus, it is working” when really, it isn’t.

It is also important to make sure you are eating a whole foods, plant-based, clean diet, otherwise, the state of your liver and kidneys and digestive system will be compromised, which will result in poor skin. Clean the inside to have a beautiful outside!

Here’s to beautiful, happy, healthy skin!
