The beauty industry is stocked with products and brands, most of them with ingredients that you can hardly pronounce. Wondering who to blame for your thinning and damaged hair? Look no further than that last tub of shampoo you bought last week.

If store-bought solutions will not repair your damaged hair, it would not hurt to try some tested home-made recipes, right? You will find the ingredients for these in the food section, and you know what they say: if it’s good for the tummy, then it is safe for your skin and hair. Let’s salvage your hair.

1. Avocado, Banana, and Olive Oil Mask

Avocado not only makes a great dip, but it also works well as a hair mask. It contains vitamins, healthy fats, natural oil, and protein, all which seal moisture and nourish the hair follicles. Bananas are high in natural oils, potassium, and other minerals that feed the starving hair from the strands to increase moisture, luster, and elasticity.  Olive oil is only one of the greatest moisturizers ever.

Preparation and Application

Mash a whole slightly overripe avocado in a bowl. Add one ripe banana into the bowl and then a Tablespoon of olive oil. Blend them to get a consistent mixture. The overripe avocado will make it easy to mix, and so you will not need to add any liquids. Apply the smooth mask on your hair, working from the roots to the ends. Cover the head with a shower cap and leave the mask on for about 30 minutes. Rinse it off completely with warm water.

2. Coconut Oil and Olive Oil

Damaged hair craves moisture, and nothing retains moisture as natural oils. Both coconut and olive oil deeply penetrate the hair strands to nourish it from the roots. Coconut oil contains protein and essential fatty acids while olive oil has more fatty acids and essential nutrients. Olive oil contains antioxidants that rid the scalp of free radicals. Unfortunately, coconut oil doesn’t work for some people, thanks to its protein content.

Preparation and Application

Mix equal portions of olive and coconut oil (usually two tablespoons each) and then massage the mixture thoroughly into your hair to stimulate blood flow. Leave it on for 30 minutes then rinse off with warm water.

3. Agave Syrup, Olive Oil, and Avocado Mask

Extremely sun-damaged hair will need an injection of intensive moisture to bring its shine and health back. Agave syrup, a humectant that is similar to honey, attracts and locks moisture. The oils in avocado imitate the consistency of sebum, and so the scalp will absorb them easily. Olive oil is a great moisturizer that also makes the syrup manageable.

Preparation and Application

Mash a whole overripe avocado into a bowl, then add ½ cup of agave syrup to it. Add 2 tablespoons of olive oil mixture and whip them together. Massage the mixture into damp hair until every part is fully covered, and then leave it on for 30 minutes. Rinse the mask off completely. You can repeat the process twice a month.

4. Avocado, Almond Milk, And Olive Oil Mask

Almond milk contains fatty acids, zinc, potassium, vitamins A and E, magnesium among other amazing nutrients that hydrate and nourish hair from the roots. Olive oil injects moisture.

Preparation and Application

Mash half a pitted avocado into a bowl. Add to it three tablespoons of olive oil and two of almond milk. Whip the ingredients then massage the mask from the roots of your hair to the ends. Rinse it off after 30 minutes.

Intervals

You can apply most of these vegan hair masks as regularly as every week, seeing as natural ingredients have no adverse side effects.
