Take your smoothie-making to the next level with this chia seed green smoothie! If you haven’t heard, chia seeds are all the rage in the health food movement right now, and for good reason too. They are loaded with beneficial amino acids that help build protein for muscle maintenance and repair, high in calcium for stronger bones and teeth, rich in omega-3 fatty acids for brain support, as well as fibre for colon health.

This smoothie also supports the health of the digestive tract by providing plenty of fibre, chlorophyll, and pre-biotics. Our gut is closely tied (via an intelligent system of nerves) to the brain, and influences our memory, appetite, immunity, mood, and sleep cycles. When our gut is functioning properly, our memory improves, our appetite regulates, the immune system strengthens, our moods become more level and our sleep cycle improves.

Chia Seed Green Smoothie Recipe

Ingredients:

– 2 cups ripe pineapple
– 2 peeled and diced oranges
– 2 cups mixed leafy greens like arugula, spinach, kale, romaine, or other
– 1 handful parsley
– 1 tbsp. chia seed gel (1/3 cup chia seeds soaked in 2 cups water for 15 minutes = chia seed gel)
– 1-2 cups water (depending on how thick you like your smoothies)

Method:

Stick all of the above ingredients in a blender and blend on high until smooth. Garnish on top with some chia seeds if you wish. Enjoy!
