Health collage of leafy greens and super foods including collard greens, dandelion greens hemp seeds, antioxidant blueberries and anti-inflammatory turmeric on stones and a rustic wood cutting board.

If you want beautiful, glowing, vibrant, younger-looking skin, then you need to take a look at your diet! These 10 amazing superfoods for your skin will help strengthen your liver and kidneys, clear out your digestive tract and allow for space to create amazing looking skin.

Our major detox organs like the liver, kidneys, and digestive tract are our body’s main method of toxin removal. Proper toxin removal ensures that our skin remains clean and clear. Why?

Normally, when one consumes a healthy diet, enriched with plenty of plant-based foods, our detox organs function normally, and toxins are removed quickly and efficiently. However, a majority of the population consumes a standard diet, full of processed boxed and canned foods with large ingredient lists, as well as alcohol consumption and an overall un-healthy attitude toward their bodies. This results weak detox organs, leading to inefficient toxin removal.

With a poorly functioning liver, kidneys and digestive tract, toxins must escape the body elsewhere, and so of course, they are expelled through our largest organ, the skin, manifesting as acne, blemishes, eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, and a multitude of other skin-related conditions.

10 Superfoods For Your Skin

These plant-based foods will help support your detox organs, and result in healthier, happier skin!

1. Dandelion Greens

Dandelion greens are one of the best foods to help clear out the liver and improve toxin removal. This leafy green is a natural diuretic that removes excess toxins and water from your blood, helping to support liver function.

2. Beetroot

Beets are rich in folate, which naturally fights wrinkles and other skin conditions. They also detoxify the entire digestive tract, helping break down stones in the bladder, kidneys and liver, making these organs function better and thus reducing toxin expulsion from the skin.

3. Berries

Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries – you name it! Berries are extremely high in antioxidants and are one of the tastiest ways to achieving healthy skin. Their antioxidant compounds neutralize free radicals, which normally lead to skin cell damage from UV radiation, pollution, smoke and pesticides.

4. Nettles

Whether you make juices, smoothies, or tea out of nettles, they will benefit the skin in numerous ways. They have an anti-inflammatory effect, which helps calm irritated skin conditions like eczema and acne. Not to mention, they are high in antioxidants, protecting the body from harmful free radicals.

5. Cucumber

Cucumbers are incredibly water dense, making them a great natural diuretic, helping to flush the kidneys and improve the rate at which toxins are expelled from the body. They contain vitamin B-5, which helps your skin retain moisture, and are a great source of silica (a precursor to collagen), which can help fight wrinkles and slow down the aging process.

6. Turmeric

Curcumin, the main component of the herb turmeric, has been successful in helping treat a number of skin conditions, from eczema and scabies to chronic skin ulcers. It has also been used with much success in speeding wound healing. This amazing herb is also highly anti-inflammatory, helping to soothe break-out prone skin, acne, psoriasis and eczema.

7. Carrots

The beta-carotene in carrots quite literally makes our skin have a year-round glow, which may at times be mistaken for a tan! They are rich in vitamin A and other antioxidants, helping protect the skin from sun damage, premature wrinkling, acne, dry skin, blemishes, and uneven skin tone.

8. Avocado

This fatty fruit is high in skin-supportive omega fatty acids, as well as vitamin E, which helps reduce skin inflammation resulting from UV-induced skin swelling, skin thickness, erythema, and edema. Not to mention they are also thought to stimulate the production of collagen in the skin, helping to improve both skin tone and texture.

9. Broccoli

These little tree-like structures are incredibly vitamin and mineral dense, full of antioxidants like vitamins A, B complex, C, E and K, all of which help to create more vibrant, beautiful-looking skin and repair dead and damaged tissue. They are also (who would have known) rich in omega-3 fatty acids, calcium, and folate, which speed skin healing and aid in proper skin function.

10. Burdock Root

Burdock is anti-bacterial, antiseptic, and anti-inflammatory, making it a great remedy for any type of skin condition, especially preventing the spread of acne, thanks to its strong antibacterial and anti-fungal properties. It has been used for centuries to treat and cure dry skin and dermatitis. This herb also contains high levels of calcium, potassium, and magnesium, all crucial minerals in maintaining healthy, glowing skin.
