Reflexology is an ancient practice, first recorded as a pictograph on the Egyptian tomb of Ankhamor in 2330 BC along with other medical practices. Dr. William H. Fitzgerald, the “father of reflexology,” found that the application of pressure to a zone that corresponded to the location of an injury could provide relief of pain during surgery.

There are thousands of pressure points on the body, which, when touched, could help improve blood flow, cleanse organs, and help cure specific problems, but when you massage this point on the body, you help sleep better, reduce stress and help restore skin’s youthfulness.

So Which Point Helps With Stress and Sleep?

It’s called the San Yin Jiao spot or SP6. It is commonly used for urological, pelvic disorders, insomnia and menstrual cramps. It is located on the inside of your leg, just above your ankle (see the image below). To find this point, locate the top of your ankle bone on the inside of your leg, and then four finger widths up your leg, apply deep pressure slightly behind the shin and massage for 4-5 seconds, release, and repeat. After a couple minutes you can start to rub harder, but keep it gentle and slow.

The Benefits of San Yin Jiao

Not only does San Yin Jiao relieve stress, cramps and insomnia, but it also makes the skin look more youthful as this spot is right at the point where the spleen, liver and kidney meridians intersect. Rubbing this point makes the spleen work more effectively, and therefore improves the appearance of the skin. A healthier spleen means that your blood cells are replaced with newer, healthier blood cells, allowing better nutrient and oxygen supply throughout the body.

Massaging this area for 10 minutes will also help resolve hormonal problems, boost sexual desire, and help women reclaim their sensuality. It will eliminate bloating and solve digestive problems, and will help stimulate the function of the ovaries and uterus (especially helpful for women trying to get pregnant).

It is recommended that you massage this area in the evening, so that the healing effects can take place while you are rested. Repeat every night for maximum benefit.

Here is a video that demonstrates how to massage this area:
