My favourite part about summer is the abundance of fresh wild blueberries that I can pick myself. I grew up learning to pick berries from my mom, and have enjoyed it ever since. This blueberry smoothie delivers beneficial vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients to the body, which help nourish and protect the body from a variety of diseases and illnesses.
The health benefits of blueberries range from cognitive support to body fat reduction. They’re great for preventing cancer, too, and also improve the health of our heart.
Blueberries protect our nerve cells from oxygen damage, and also activate neuronal receptors, which help with age-related memory problems. Our bodies also become more efficient at metabolizing fat when we consume an antioxidant-rich diet. Anthocyanins in blueberries have been found to literally change the way the body stores and processes glucose for energy, which helps reduce body fat in the long run.
So why not go ahead and make this smoothie? Your brain and body will love you for it!
