This morning detox shot of apple cider vinegar (ACV) and honey will provide a double dose of protection for your body all year long.

The health benefits of consuming apple cider vinegar has been claimed by millions to cure a host of different problems in the body. These include things like lowering blood sugar levels to improving asthmatic symptoms, and even improving the lives of those suffering from diabetes.

The combination of ACV and honey can help alleviate inflammation in the body as well, which is often the trigger for most disease and illness. Inflammation manifests in the body when it is too acidic, and ACV can help remediate that.

ACV, although acidic in nature, is converted alkaline when metabolized by the body. So technically, it is highly alkalizing (that is, if you choose the right ACV – see below). ACV therefore helps quickly alkalize the body, especially in the morning when your body needs it most.

When you’re sleeping at night, your body is essentially doing a major toxin cleanse. It allows the body and brain to rejuvenate, and it also allows it to shuttle out toxic matter that accumulated the day previous. All of your cells are repaired in this process, too. Anything that wasn’t meant to be there (any damage that’s occurred during the day), will be disposed of.

When you wake up, you want to make sure that you help the body get rid of any excess matter it doesn’t want to hold on to. All that acidic waste matter should be shuttled out and neutralized immediately. Thankfully, ACV can help raise your pH more alkaline from acidic, and can bring your blood back to its natural state. It will help flush out any toxic waste, as well as make it easier for your body to fight off germs and other ailments.

Of course, this is not to say that diet and lifestyle don’t play a role in keeping the body alkaline. This drink will help, yes, but if you are constantly abusing your body by feeding it foods that are not designed to help heal and clean the body (like lots of fresh leafy greens, herbs and fruits), then your body will likely remain in an acidic state.

ACV And Honey A Powerful Combination

Apple cider vinegar is basically the fermented juice from apples – so it contains everything an apple has to offer, plus more (because of the fermentation effects). It contains some pectin, vitamins B1, B2, and B6, biotin, folic acid, niacin, pantothenic acid, vitamin C, as well as the rare vitamin K2 (only found in animal products and fermented foods). ACV also contains small amounts of minerals like sodium, phosphorous, potassium, calcium, iron and magnesium.

Honey on the other hand, is an incredibly powerful super-food (if eaten in raw form). It contains beneficial amino acids, as well as minerals like potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron, copper and zinc. In addition, honey is also high in vitamin C, thiamine, riboflavin, nicotinic acid, vitamin B6 and pantothenic acid. Honey is incredibly anti-bacterial, especially manuka honey!

Drinking the combination of these two ingredients will provide your body with benefits such as:

– Eliminating joint pain
– Treating acid reflux and heartburn
– Reducing inflammation
– Improving bone health (thanks to vitamin K2)
– Keeping viruses and bacteria at bay
– Lowering blood sugar levels
– Relieving nausea
– Improving immune function
– Providing relief for asthmatics
– Killing or slowing cancerous growths
– Reducing cholesterol
– Helping with weight loss
– Easing sore throats
– Boosting energy levels
– Eliminating bad breath
– Relieving allergies
– Improving skin quality
– Balancing pH levels
– Cleansing the lymphatic system

How To Prepare The Drink

Preparing the drink is really simple! Here are the ingredients you need:

– 1 tsp. raw honey
– 1 tbsp. raw, organic, apple cider vinegar
– 1 cup of water

Mix all of the ingredients in a tall glass, and drink at least 20 minutes before breakfast. Work your way up to 1 litre of water, same mixture components. It will be more diluted, but more water means faster flushing abilities.

Choosing The Right ACV

Make sure the brand of ACV you are buying is organic, unpasteurized (aka. raw), and unfiltered. You want the ACV with the “mother” – any vinegar that is clear and not murky will NOT produce the same bodily effects.

Some great ACV brands include:
– Braggs Organic Raw ACV
– Eden Foods Organic ACV
– Filsinger’s Organic ACV
– Spectrum Organic ACV
– Omega Nutrition Organic ACV

Warning: high amounts of ACV may interfere with diuretics, laxatives and medicine for diabetes and heart disease. Talk to your doctor before consuming ACV daily.

Love the taste of the ACV+raw honey+water drink (I am a vinegar lover)! Is it harmful to any of the benefits of this drink if the water is heated, rather than cold?

The heat can destroy the beneficial enzymes in the honey and the ACV, hence why it is suggested to use cool or just warm water.
