Must-Have Essential Oils

The importance of using natural products cannot be repeated enough number of times simply because they provide innumerable benefits.

While most associate essential oils with aromatherapy, there are numerous other uses of various essential oils. They prove to be great home remedies for many ailments, act as effective insecticides, and are devoid of any sideeffects.

However, there are so many essential oils to choose from that picking the best ones can be confusing. Here are some of the most popular essential oils that you can keep handy at home.

5 Must-Have Essential Oils

1. Lavender Oil:

The flag-bearer of essential oils, lavender, has a sedative, floral aroma that has many therapeutic uses. Add a few drops of lavender oil to your bath water to energize your circulatory system and reduce visible signs of aging and skin wrinkling. It also soothes skin irritation and rashes. Its antidepressant properties help lift your spirit and relieve anxiety and melancholia. It also heals scarring from acne, insect bites, and minor burns.

Lavender oil can also be used to relieve headaches and reduce instances of insomnia.

2. Chamomile Oil:

Like chamomile tea, chamomile essential oil also has a calming effect. It is especially beneficial for your mental health since it helps cure anxiety, depression, and irritability associated with the premenstrual syndrome. It also helps older women ease into menopause by reducing the emotional symptoms. Topical application of chamomile essential oil can be used to treat boils, bee stings, dry skin, cuts and bruises, eczema, acne, and dermatitis.

3. Lemongrass Oil:

It is considered an analgesic since it can cure muscle ache, joint pain, and toothaches resulting from inflammation. Also, lemongrass oil helps bring down high fever and reduces headaches caused by the high temperature. It has antiseptic and antibacterial properties that help heal wounds internally as well as externally. Also, for lactating mothers, lemongrass is known to increase the formation of milk as well as enhance its quality. Being an effective sedative, lemongrass is used in aromatherapy. It also helps calm frayed nerves and delays the onset of nerve related diseases like Alzheimer’s.

4. Tea Tree Oil:

This particular essential oil is mostly known for its anti-inflammatory properties, which is why it is used in most anti-acne products. Add a few drops of tea tree oil in your shampoo, and it will help reduce dandruff and kill lice. Tea tree oil is also used to cure eczema, cold sores, warts, nail fungus, and athlete’s foot owing to its anti-fungal properties.

5. Eucalyptus Oil:

The most well known benefit of eucalyptus oil is that it relieves respiratory congestion. Sometimes allergies can kick up a storm of sneezing and phlegm-induced coughing that eucalyptus oil helps reduce. It is also known to help soothe pain arising from fibromyalgia when applied to the affected areas. It is also an effective disinfectant and adsorbent that can keep your home free from pests as well as remove bad odour.

Most essential oils should not be ingested, so make sure that you read the directions on the phial. Also, when using essential oils, you must dilute it with the help of a carrier oil like coconut oil or olive oil. This is because the essential oil is a concentrated fluid that might be too potent for you.

Nevertheless, essential oils are extremely useful in our day lives and should be enjoyed to their optimum.
