Dealing with persistent, dry coughs, or phlegm-clogged lungs? This homemade cough syrup recipe is just what you need!
There are two types of coughs – dry and productive. Productive coughs include those in which you cough up phlegm or mucous. You do not want to suppress a productive cough, as your body is trying to get rid of whatever is clogging the lungs (bacteria and viruses). Most synthetic over-the-counter cough syrups do just that, which is harmful to the body and makes matters worse.
This homemade cough syrup contains natural remedies that address a productive (or dry) cough by including an expectorant – something that loosens mucous and makes it easier for the body to get rid of.
Honey is incredibly anti-bacterial and lemon is beneficial in killing viruses and other bacteria. Liquorice root tea is also great for soothing your airways while loosening and thinning mucous, helping to ease congestion. It also helps get rid of inflammation that may irritate your throat!
